Rev. Father Alexander Karloutsos and Rev. Father Constantine Lazarakis serve the Dormition the Virgin Mary Church. As the servant/leaders of the congregation, the clergy oversee all ministries and operations of the Church.
In addition to their Liturgical and administrative role, the clergy are available for pastoral counseling; hospital; nursing home; and home visits, and to discuss any questions pertaining to the Church, our Faith and the Spiritual Life. The Parish Council, with the guidance of the Priest, is the body that manages and oversees all operations of our Church and Parish Community. Its duties include: administering the Parish’s operating procedures, business concerns, and fund-raising activities.
Membership
All Orthodox Christian Parishioners in good standing for one year are eligible to run for one of the fifteen elected positions. The elections take place yearly on the second Sunday in December in the Johnides Family Cultural Center for seven of fifteen positions. All parishioners in good standing are eligible to vote and the Council members serve a three-year term. Council members are permitted to serve two consecutive terms, and then are required to take one year off before accepting a nomination to the Council again.
Meetings
The Parish Council convenes monthly at the Johnides Family Cultural Center. However, the Parish Council may meet whenever deemed necessary.
The Church Office Staff is an integral part of the everyday life of our Parish. All records, appointments, information, bulletins, reservations for Church facilities, scheduling of events (meetings, memorials, sacraments, etc.), mailings, phone calls, Sunday Agape Fellowship, etc. are coordinated with the Church office.

Academic Year
Classes are held on Sunday immediately after communion, September through May. Faculty and staff will meet monthly to improve teaching skills and learn new ideas to share with their students. Registration begins and continues throughout the month of September.
Activities
Each class has special projects and curriculum; however, all students participate in activities during the year (Christmas Pageant, Godparent/Godchild Sundays, Youth Sundays, etc.).
Road to Orthodoxy Classes are geared toward any adult who wants to learn more about the life, theology and and history of the Church. Those seeking Baptism or Chrismation must complete the course, and all(if you grew up in the Church or are simply curious about the Church) are welcome to the classes

Educational and Cultural Programs Organizations Youth Ministry
The Language and Culture Institute promotes language acquisition, cultural fluency and exposure, as well as appreciation the multicultural nature of Orthodox Christianity. Classes are offered in Greek, Romanian, and Russian.

1st grade through high school.
Academic Year
Classes are held from September through May. Faculty and staff will meet weekly to evaluate the program and the progress of students. Registration opens in August and rolling admission is permitted.

Summer Greek Immersion Camp
To assist the Priest during the Divine Services by serving with care and reverence in the Holy Altar.
Eligibility to Serve
Boys 7 years and older
Adult Altar servers are selected by the Clergy to help supervise
Altar Boys, and to assist in the execution of the Divine Service
Participation
Altar Serves are asked to serve in Altar every Sunday, during the services of Holy Week and Pascha, as well as on Christmas and other major Feast Days. Altar servers are expected to arrive prior to the beginning of the Divine Liturgy. Those arriving after the reading of the Gospel are asked not to serve on that Sunday.
Ushers play an important role in the Liturgical life of the Church. Most importantly, they welcome and greet worshippers as they enter the Church. In many cases, the usher makes the first impression of the Church, as they are the first person a newcomer might meet. In addition to welcoming all to the Church with open arms, ushers help to maintain proper Church etiquette, maintain order as the faithful enter the Church, proceed to the chalice to receive communion and exit the Church.
Philoptochos is a nationally chartered women’s organization assisting the needy and the poor on an international, national, and local level. Philoptochos supports the many activities within the Parish both through members’ volunteered time as well as financial means and is active primarily in charitable programs, outreach, and community activities.

Educational and Cultural Programs Organizations Youth Ministry
The Parent Teacher Organization brings parental awareness, involvement, and participation in the life of our young people as they are nurtured in the Orthodox Christian Way of Life. The PTO creates the ways and means for supporting all educational and youth programs of our Parish.
HOPE andJOY are the youth organizations for younger children of parish. activities typically take place monthly and include educational, recreational and catechetical activities and outings. See the Church calendar, new releases and our social media outlets for scheduled activities.
The Hamptons Hellenic Dancers learn and perform traditional folk dances from various regions of Greece, while learning to work together as team, perform before an audience, and being physically active. The Hamptons Hellenic Dancers are one of the major highlights of the largest family event on the East End, The Hamptons Greek Festival. They also periodically perform at cultural events around Long Island. The Hamptons Hellenic Dancers carry on the traditional dances of Greece to younger generations and play an important role in perpetuating our living culture

Eligibility
All young people are welcome to join. Contact the Church Office for more information or to register and learn the practice schedule.
GOYA is the Greek Orthodox Youth of America. Young people from 7-12 grade are eligible to participate. Activities are organized on a monthly basis and include participation in Divine Services, Philanthropic initiatives, recreational outing, and activities geared toward spiritual growth and religious understanding.
Volunteers read from the Epistles of St. Paul, the Acts of the Apostles, and the various readings of Holy Week and occasional Divine Services, delivering the Word of God to the Faithful during worship. If you would like to read, contact Sally Peponakis or the Church Office
Funerals and Memorial Services Liturgy and Worship Sacraments and Special Services
According to the Tradition of the Orthodox Church we honor and pray for those who have gone before us and “rest among the righteous” in memorial services. The memorial service is offered typically at the conclusion of Divine Liturgy and is accompanied by Koliva (boiled wheat prepared as a symbol of the resurrection). Typically, memorial services are offered on or near the fortieth day after a loved one has passed away, at the one year mark, and annually thereafter. However, you may schedule a memorial at any time you like. To schedule a memorial service, contact the Church Office.
Liturgy and Worship Sacraments and Special Services
Artoklasia, or the Blessing of the Five Loaves, is a traditional prayer service of gratitude offered for the health and well being of the living. It is typically offered during the Vespers or at the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy. On our Feast Day, August 15th, you may submit names of the living for the Artoklasia. You may also schedule an Artoklasia for your Feast Day or the Feast Day of a loved one by contacting the Church Office
The Holy Bread which is consecrated in the Eucharist and also distributed at Antithoro at the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy is baked by volunteers. This sacred offering is integral to the worship of the Church, and is made to God on behalf of the entire congregation. If you would like to learn to make the Offering Bread and to take rotation in the baking schedule, contact Christine Vamvakitis or the contact the Church Office.
Often, people can benefit from the counsel of a priest. It may be that one has questions concerning the Church; prayer, fasting, theology, or it may be that an individual or a family are facing challenges and difficulty. In times of illness, marital problems, anxiety, depression, or difficulty with children, the clergy of the parish are always available to lend an ear and to offer words of counsel.
We know that not everyone can come to Church all of the time, and we also know that times of illness and infirmity are times when we need spiritual strength and to feel the love of God. Each year at Christmas and Thanksgiving, we conduct our “Pluck-a-Feather and “Giving Tree” drives. Through these, our Church collects warm winter clothes, household essentials, educational toys, and nutritious food for East End Families, partnering with a variety of agencies and organizations, these initiatives have brought relief to hundreds.
As needs arise and opportunities present themselves, our Church Family always tries to help those in need. over the years, we have worked for hurricane relief, educational support, hunger relief, and man many other worthy causes.
The Johnides Family Cultural Center is a space dedicated to the education and enrichment of all who live on and visit the East End. On an ongoing basis, artists from a variety of backgrounds exhibit their work. To see scheduled opening, visit our Church Calendar or the newsfeed.
Throughout the year, a variety of speakers, authors and experts offer programs. Authors, medical professionals, scholars, historians, policy makers and more help us to broaden our understanding of the world we live in.

During Great Lent, following the Divine Liturgy of the PreSanctified Gifts, a Lenten meal is served and Father Constantine Leads a discussion on the themes of Great Lent.
A Greek Expression meaning, Good Company, Kali Parea is the name of our seniors group. Kali Parea meets monthly for a meal and fellowship. Holy Unction is the anointing with Holy Oil for healing of physical and spiritual maladies. Holy Unction is always distributed for Orthodox Christians on Holy Wednesday. You may also request Unction in times of illness or distress, and the Clergy my anoint the sick during home or hospital visits.
Confession is the sacrament by which the Priest pronounces the forgiveness of sins with he authority of the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. To learn more about confession, or to schedule an appointment, contact the Church Office and schedule a time talk with Father Constantine.
The Sacrament of Christmation is the Seal of the Gift of the Holy Spirit, and it a sacrament by which the faithful are confirmed in the Faith. It is normally received at the time of baptism, but those how come to the Orthodox Faith from another mainline Christian denomination (i.e. were baptized with water in the name of the Trinity) may received into the Orthodox Church by Christmation.
Ordination by the laying on of hands is the sacrament by which one enters into the priestly orders of the Orthodox Church. Clergy in the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America must attend an accredited Orthodox Christian seminary and receive a Masters Degree in Divinity or an equivalent degree in order to be considered for Ordination.
