On September 11, 2014, the world will mark the thirteenth anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. The steel Cross in the garden of our Sanctuary was constructed and dedicated “In memory of the victims and heroes of the attack on America, and the founders of our parish.” On the front of the memorial Cross, which was made from the steel of our former sanctuary, is displayed a small Cross which was forged from the steel of the South Tower that fell upon the Greek Orthodox Church of St. Nicholas at Ground Zero. The South Tower Fell at 9:59 AM, and the North Tower fell at 10:28 AM. Tomorrow morning, at 9:59, Memorial Prayers will be offered at the 9/11 Memorial Cross at the Dormition of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church. A period of silence in honor of the victims and heroes of 9/11 will follow until 10:28. All are invited to join us as we mark the anniversary of the attacks and pray for those who were lost, those who heroically served their fellow human beings on that day, and the families of the victims.
