The Documentary: Trezoros (The Lost Jews of Kastoria)

Beloved Church Family and Friends,

Christ is in our midst!

On October 29, 2026, 6:00PM Dormition of the Virgin Mary Cathedral will offer an exclusive screening of Trezoros, The Lost Jews of Kastoria. The documentary chronicles the effects of The Holocaust on the Village of Katoria, Greece. Prior to the 2nd World War, Greek Jews and Orthodox Christians lived as one harmonious community for millennia in the picturesque, lakeside mountain village of Kastoria – Jewish and Christian children attended school and played together. Neighbors supported and loved one another, sharing in daily life, family milestones and even in one another’s holidays and sacred observances. The film’s title “Trezoros” is the Ladino word for “treasure” and alludes to how the treasured neighbors were torn apart by Nazi occupation and the forced expulsion of the Jews of Kastoria.

Through interviews with both Jewish and Christian survivors of the war, we are brought face to face with the horrors of the death camps, the feeling of helplessness, loss and guilt of the Kastorian Christians who remained in their ravaged village, the courage and resilience of survivors as they forged new post war lives. It is a unique, harrowing, and intimate look at pre-war multiculturalism, the horrors of WW II, and life after the triumph of the Allies.

The Producers of the film, Larry Russo and Lary Confino, will be present for a post screening Q and A discussion with the audience. Kastorian food and refreshments will be offered. Admission is free, donations are welcome.  All donations will support the Kastorian Schools efforts to preserve local history.

The screening will begin at 6:00PM, Dormition of the Virgin Mary Cathedral, 111 St. Andrews Road, Southampton. All are welcome.
